Lambrick Park BASEBALL and SOFTBALL ACADEMY

The Lambrick Park Softball/Baseball Academy is a unique program for student-athletes who want to improve their performance on the field while growing as confident, well-rounded individuals. Designed for those passionate about baseball or softball, the program blends high-level training with a focus on leadership, teamwork, and personal growth. Athletes take part in daily sessions that build technical skills, physical conditioning, and injury prevention, with instruction tailored to all skill levels.

Alongside athletic training, students engage in classroom learning aligned with the BC Physical and Health Education curriculum. Topics such as nutrition, mental health, and goal setting support their overall development. The program also emphasizes academic success, helping students manage their time and responsibilities effectively. Through team-building activities and community involvement, athletes learn to be confident leaders and positive role models. The Academy follows a block schedule, with one block running per semester. Classes are held daily throughout the school year. An overview of the yearly schedule can be found below.

Academy Schedule Overview

Fall

September-October

Fall Labour Day – Thanksgiving

During the first five weeks of the school year, Academy students will take advantage of the good weather by training on the field from Monday to Thursday. Fridays are dedicated to classroom sessions, where students explore various aspects of the Physical and Health Education curriculum.  After a brief rest at the end of summer, players are returning to a full fall ball schedule. At this stage of the season, many students are focused on earning roster spots on their local baseball or softball teams. Within the Academy, the emphasis is on identifying individual areas for improvement and building on existing strengths to support those community-level goals. Academy staff use their expertise to deliver technical instruction and targeted intervention strategies, with a strong focus on preventing overuse injuries.

Fall Thanksgiving – Remembrance Day

Over the next five weeks of the school year, Academy students will shift their focus to strength and conditioning from Monday to Thursday. After up to seven or eight months of continuous competition, it’s time to set aside the gloves and bats. This phase is designed to help athletes recover from lingering aches and pains while beginning preparations for the next season. The focus will be on developing proper movement patterns and reinforcing motor control through slower tempos and lighter loads. By the end of this phase, students will have built a solid foundation to support their continued development through the winter.

Winter

November-February

Winter Remembrance Day – Christmas Break

Over the next five weeks, the schedule transitions to indoor training at Oak Bay Rec Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays, and weight room sessions at Lambrick Park Secondary on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During indoor training, athletes make use of the batting cages and turf to refine the fundamentals of their baseball/softball skills. Development is supported by analytic tools like Rapsodo and Blast Motion, which provide valuable quantitative data to guide and inform individual progress.

Winter Christmas Break – Spring Break

For the next 12 weeks, the schedule continues with indoor training at Oak Bay Rec Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays, and weight room sessions at Lambrick Park Secondary on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As the season approaches, players gradually ramp up their preparation for Opening Day. At the indoor facility, pitchers begin throwing bullpens, progressively increasing their pitch counts and incorporating live at-bats against hitters. Position players also elevate the intensity of their throwing, fielding, and hitting work. In the weight room, athletes continue building strength—taking advantage of the final phase for significant gains before transitioning into the demands of in-season competition.

Spring

March-June

Spring Break – Summer Break

After spring break, most athletes are entering the heart of their competitive seasons. Academy classes return full-time to Lambrick Park, with outdoor training on Mondays and Wednesdays and continued strength and conditioning sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Outdoor practices focus on high-quality repetitions to reinforce baseball fundamentals and promote automaticity in skill execution. Given the physical demands of in-season play, special attention is placed on managing workload and preventing overuse injuries. In the weight room, the emphasis shifts to maintaining strength and power while enhancing mobility and stability to support performance and recovery.
