FAQ for New Students & Families
What is the school’s policy on cell phones and social media use?
Our school follows the Provincial government’s guidelines, in line with all high schools in the Greater Victoria School District. Students may have cell phones and personal devices, but individual teachers will determine how, when, and if they may be used during class time.
How does attendance and late arrival work?
If a student is excused, please email lambrickattendance@sd61.bc.ca or call 250-477-0181. Be sure to include your child’s first and last name.

What happens if my child gets sick during the school day?
Students who feel unwell may sign out at the office and go home. Parental/guardian permission is not required for students to sign out.
What are the options for school lunch? Can students leave campus during lunch?
We offer a hot lunch program from Monday to Thursday, with two ordering periods (Semester 1 and Semester 2). Please check School Cash Online and the school newsletter for order deadlines. Additional details will be shared in September. Students are permitted to leave campus during lunch.
Where can my child park their bike or car?
- Car Parking: There are two parking lots—one at the front and one at the back. Students must park in designated spaces.
- Bike Parking: Covered bike racks are available at the front of the school off Torquay Drive. Please ensure bikes are securely locked.
Do students need a personal device (laptop/tablet) for schoolwork?
No, a personal device is not required. Many students choose to bring a Chromebook or laptop, and some use their phones for assignments when permitted. The school also provides Chromebooks and iPads for students who need them for coursework.
How do parents stay updated on their child’s progress?
- Report Cards: Issued four times a year (November, January, April, and June).
- Parent-Teacher Interviews: Typically held in October/November and April.
- Teacher Communication: Families can reach out to teachers directly—staff emails are available on our website.
Is there a school counselor available for academic or personal concerns?
Yes! Lambrick has three counselors:
- Two academic and personal support counselors
- One Youth and Family Counselor (YFC) for additional personal support
Students can make an appointment or drop by the counseling office.
What supports are available for students with learning differences or disabilities?
- Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) will be assigned a case manager in September.
- For incoming Grade 9 students, our team collaborates with middle school staff to ensure a smooth transition.
- Case managers will contact families and share accommodation/modification details with classroom teachers.
- Some students choose to take a Learning Strategies class as an Elective course. These classes are designed for students to learn skills that will help them be successful in their academics and provides supported time to complete assignments for other classes and study.
What clubs, sports, and activities are available for new students?
- Sports teams hold tryouts at the beginning of the school year or season—watch for announcements on your SD61 Gmail, school Instagram, or speak with Mr. Baker for details.
- Clubs will host a Clubs Day in September where students can meet club leaders and staff sponsors.
What are the school hours, and what time should my child arrive?
- Classes begin at 8:55 AM.
- Students should arrive by 8:45 AM to ensure they are on time.

How does my child find their way around the school? Are there tours available?
- Grade 8 Transition Day (May): Incoming Grade 9 students will receive a guided tour.
- Self-Guided Tours: Available in late June and late August. Details will be sent via email and included in the Grade 8 Transition Newsletter.
Are there lockers, and how does my child get one?
Yes! Lockers will be available for reservation in late August via Student Connect. Instructions can be found in our New Student Orientation slideshow.
