ATHLETIC LEADERSHIP 9
Students must apply to be accepted into this course which is designed to allow like-minded students the opportunity to explore interests in a range of athletic pursuits. The course runs together with Physical Education for a double block of time. Students will be given the opportunity to learn and demonstrate leadership skills in many situations from the playing fields and gymnasium setting for Physical Education, to organizing and managing tournaments from scorekeeping to refereeing and many different lifetime activities offered away from the school setting such as: sailing, kayaking, disc golfing, golfing, rock climbing, beach volleyball, skating, skiing, or snowboarding, all of which will emphasize working together as a team to achieve goals. Students will achieve certification through St. John Ambulance. Students will be allowed the opportunity to help referee and give instruction to elementary and middle school students. Those grade 8 students with a strong interest in athletics, who are self-motivated, would like to develop their leadership skills, and are willing to volunteer their time are invited to apply for Athletic Leadership 9. There are some costs required.
ATHLETIC LEADERSHIP 10
Students must apply to be accepted into this course which is designed to allow like-minded students the opportunity to explore interests in a range of athletic pursuits. The course will run together with P.E. 10 and builds on concepts established in Athletic Leadership 9. Students will be expected to learn proper care and treatment of athletic injuries, learn to organize and run intramural leagues, volunteer to officiate at elementary and middle schools and become certified through St. John Ambulance course. Activities outside of school include: sailing, kayaking, disc golfing, golfing, rock climbing, beach volleyball, Wildplay, skating, skiing or snowboarding will be offered. There are some costs required.
ATHLETIC LEADERSHIP 11/12
Athletic Leadership 11/12 is for grade 11 students with a strong interest in Physical Education and outdoor activities and would like to take part in many activities away from the school. It is a double block that allows for travel away from the school. Regular Physical Education sports will be played such as; basketball, volleyball, soccer, ultimate, badminton etc. However, the extended time will allow us to take part in the following activities; 3 day hiking the Juan de Fuca trail, sailing at the R.V.Y.C., driving range, golfing, Wild Play, rock climbing, surfing, Scuba diving, lawn bowling, beach volleyball and a two day river rafting trip down the Thompson River.
There will be 8 credits for the course. 4 for Senior PE and 4 for Athletic Leadership 11/12.
